If you can't find the right mattress shape for you, why not get a foam mattress with the right comfort in it and shape it up to any shape you want. One good example is to have it shaped like a circle or an oval.

Step 1: Choose your foam and your bed frame. You can have a carpenter design you a circular bed friend and you can pattern the size of your mattress from there. After choosing the bed frame, you can now find a good size of foam. Make sure you follow the rules in picking a foam. It should have the right density in it. Step 2: Prepare the materials. Get your foam, scissors, sharp knife, markers and measuring tape. Measure the foam first and find out the desired size. If you want, you can cut out a pattern first using Manila paper and marker to make the size a lot more precise and then lay it over the foam push a pin needles on top of it and then use the marker to mark the edges of the pattern.

Step 3: Remove the pattern and the needles that secure it and then start cutting the foam to the patterned shape using the knife. If your knife is sharp enough, it should cut the foam easily.

Step 4: Now you can make a customized cover for your foam. Use the Manila paper pattern and place it on top of the fabric. Secure the edges with pins again. Trace the manila paper on the fabric with a pencil or a washable marker.

Step 5: Do one more so you have a pattern for the top and bottom of the foam mattress. Afterwards, measure the circumference of the round foam and then measure the height. Using the measurements, make a pattern out of it. Cut the fabric but leave an inch of allowance for the sewing part.

Step 6: now assemble the cover. Sew the edges carefully. One side should be left open for zipper. Sew zipper to the one side of the cover. Once you are done, cover the circular foam with it.

And it seems to be the buzz among mattress shoppers. I'm talking, of course, about the Sleep Number bed.

If you don't already know, the Sleep Number bed is an airbed. It uses air as the main supporting feature -- as opposed to innersprings, water or memory foam.

I'm going to tell you about its main advantages of disadvantages.

I first, however, want to tell you that I'm uniquely qualified to give this information. That's because I recently spent at least 250 hours scouring through nearly 50 online forums, message boards, consumer websites, etc. gathering information from at least 1,600 people on what they think of their mattresses.

Advantages

Comfort -- Most people are pleased with the comfort of their Sleep Number bed. In fact, those who like the bed often do so passionately.

Adjustable firmness -- The Sleep Number bed provides adjustable firmness at the push of a button, as do most air beds. More air in the mattress means more firmness, and vice versa. The Sleep Number bed offers duel air chambers which allow two people sleeping on the bed to have their own firmness setting. And the bed is called "Sleep Number" because the firmness level is indicated by a number. The firmer the setting is, the higher the number.

Disadvantages

Air loss -- All air mattresses by their nature will lose air over time (permeation), and air will need to be added to compensate. However, according to my research, about 11% of Sleep Number bed owners reported frequent and significant air loss. This apparently was mostly due to faulty air pumps and connections and not merely permeation.

Trench / intrusion in middle of bed -- According to my research, about 14% of Sleep Number bed owners said that there was a trench or intrusion in the middle of the bed between the two air chambers. This was especially noticeable when the two chambers had very different firmness levels. This trench / intrusion could undermine the bed's comfort and discourage intimate encounters among couples.

You're ready to set it all up and jump in, but you forgot the bed base! Before you opt for your old box spring, there are a few things you should know about providing the proper support for your new mattress.

Though they seem perfect, box springs are not designed for memory foam mattresses.

Most spring mattresses are sold as sets which include the mattress, box spring and adjustable bed base. The bed base adjusts to the proper bed size (double, queen, etc.) and elevates the bed off the floor to a desired height. The box spring rests on top of the bed base, and the mattress is placed on top, completing the package.

Box springs are constructed using a basic wooden frame structure. Springs are assembled in a grid which is mounted to the wooden frame. A layer of cotton padding is placed over top of the springs, and the entire structure is then upholstered using strong synthetic fabrics to create the finished product. They add more comfort and motion absorption to a spring mattress, and also provide support so the mattress doesn't sag in the middle.

So why can't I use this for my memory foam mattress?

There are several main reasons not to use one for your memory foam mattress.

Memory foam is much heavier than spring and requires full support underneath the mattress Unlike spring mattresses, memory foam mattresses do not have an internal structure and are more likely to sag in the middle if used on an insufficient base The strongest areas of a box spring are around the edges. Memory foam mattresses require full and evenly distributed support.

So what's the best solution?

It's pretty simple. You need something sturdy and strong enough to hold the mattress's weight (a king size can weigh up to 140lbs). It needs to be properly constructed to support the mattress and keep it completely flat, avoiding areas where it could sag.
